WHY BE BAPTIZED?

In Matthew 3, Jesus was baptized, and in Matthew 28 he instructed us to baptize others.
We baptize by immersion, dipping the whole body into the water at once.

Believers are baptized as a declaration of their faith in Jesus as their Savior – telling the world they are truly his disciples.

It's important to understand that baptism doesn’t make you a believer; it shows that you already are one. The act of baptism isn’t what saves you. Only faith in Christ can do that (Ephesians 2:8-9). Baptism is symbolic – an outward act because of an inward, spiritual change that has already taken place.

Baptism identifies us with Jesus. Going in and out of the water is a picture in our lives of Christ going in and out of the grave. Paul described it like this in Romans 6:3-4: “…When we became Christians and were baptized to become one with Christ Jesus, we died with him. For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.” Baptism declares and confirms that our old life of sin is dead and a new life in Christ has begun.
